Why You're Working 60 Hours and Still Not Growing

Jotham Hall·May 5, 2025·6 min read

You're working harder than ever. 60-hour weeks. Weekends at the laptop. You fall asleep thinking about your business and wake up to a to-do list that's longer than yesterday's.

And yet... the numbers aren't moving.

Sound familiar?

The Activity Trap

Here's what most founders don't realize: busyness and productivity are not the same thing.

You can spend 8 hours on social media and call it "marketing." You can redesign your website three times and call it "branding." You can attend every networking event and call it "business development."

None of that is moving the needle.

The Three Things That Actually Matter

At any stage of business, only three activities drive growth:

1. Getting attention. Are you consistently putting your offer in front of the right people?

2. Converting attention to revenue. Do you have a clear path from "interested" to "paid"?

3. Delivering results. Are your clients getting what they paid for — efficiently?

Everything else is a support function. Important, but not the main event.

The Fix

Track your time for one week. Every hour, write down what you did. At the end of the week, categorize each hour:

  • **A:** Directly generates revenue
  • **B:** Supports revenue generation
  • **C:** Administrative / maintenance
  • **D:** Could be eliminated or delegated

Most founders discover that less than 20% of their time is spent on A activities.

The goal: Get to 50%+ on A activities. Automate or delegate the rest.
